The Voice For Those Who Can't Speak

On January 22, 2019, Governor Andrew Cuomo of New York signed The Reproductive Health Act. This law codifies the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision into state law. Under the law, women have the opportunity to abort the baby in their womb during and after the third trimester.



Now I am from the Tri-State area and when I received the news that New York passed this law, I was completely and utterly disgusted. It makes me sick to my stomach that these politicians think it is fine to rip the baby from the women and let it die. I am here to tell you that I will be the voice for those you cannot speak. 

I am not ashamed to say that I am a devout Catholic. However, the Bible is not the only weapon I have to defend the rights of these unborn citizens. The Declaration of Independence is the shield I will defend these unborn babies with. As Americans, we turn to the Declaration to preserve our right to equality. The following line of the Declaration has been embedded in our brains as citizens of the United States; 

"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness"

Notice the order that the founders placed our unalienable rights. Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Our right to life is placed above all other privileges we inherit as American citizens. Abortion laws direct violate the Declaration of Independence’s fundamental principle that all men have the right to “Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” How can we proclaim to be a nation of equality when we allow people to dictate who lives and who dies. By allowing abortion to be legal, we deprive these unborn babies the precious right to life. These babies will never get to express liberty or happiness either because our lawmakers have ultimately decided to control their lives.

Although we all know our unalienable rights as American citizens, we are less familiar with the words that follow this claim. The rest of this sentence proceeds as follows;

"That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, — That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness."

The Founding Fathers realized that in order to safeguard their rights, they must be represented in the government and ensure that their leaders are always adhering to these foundational rights. The fact of the matter is that these unborn babies cannot fight back against abortion laws which hinder their right to Life because they cannot yet express their political voice. My fellow citizens, it is our moral responsibility to represent these unborn babies and defend their unalienable rights. Every heart beats true for the Red, White and Blue, no matter how small that heartbeat is. Therefore, I make a vow to represent these future citizens and be the voice of those who cannot speak.
